Developing resilient grain marketing strategies is crucial for agricultural producers as various market pressures converge. Oklahoma State University Crop Marketing Specialist Dr. Todd Hubbs discussed the commodity landscape with Farm Director KC Sheperd following the latest USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report.

The report revealed that Hard Red Winter wheat futures broke below the $8.00 mark, pulling back into the low $7.90 range due to technical selling, profit-taking, and fundamental factors justified the weakness. The USDA lowered HRW export projections by 15 million bushels, while world ending stocks edged higher.

Dr. Hubbs noted that the Small Grains Annual Summary released at the end of September will deliver final winter wheat production numbers and spring wheat yields, serving as a major fundamental anchor. He also cautioned against potential agreements between Russia and Ukraine, calling them far-fetched, and warned that persistent Black Sea uncertainty will keep volatility elevated.

In contrast to wheat, corn demonstrated resilience following the report due to strong domestic demand across ethanol production and steady export commitments. Dr. Hubbs expects corn values to trade in a defined sideways range until fresh demand signals emerge.
