Grain Markets Slump as Strong Dollar Index Hits Multi-Week Highs
The grain markets experienced significant declines on September 23rd as the U.S. dollar index reached multi-week highs.
Corn prices fell by 7.75 cents to $5.29, with the market feeling 'heavy' at present and prices moving towards the lower boundary of a three-week-old trading range.
Soybean prices also dropped, with November soybeans falling 7.5 cents to $13.18, and December soybean meal losing $0.10 to $370.60.
The U.S. dollar index's strength was cited as a bearish outside-market element for the wheat markets, leading to declines in prices, including December SRW falling by 8.75 cents to $7.08.50 and December HRW falling by 9.5 cents to $7.71.75.
