Grains and Livestock Futures Markets See Volatility and Price Fluctuations
The grains and livestock futures markets experienced significant price fluctuations on Wednesday, September 2nd. December corn dropped by 1 1/4 cents, while November soybeans fell by 6 1/2 cents. In contrast, December MIAX Minneapolis wheat rose by 2 cents.
October crude oil prices increased by $0.96, and Dow Jones futures surged by 249 points. The U.S. Dollar Index declined by 0.12, while December gold gained $29.40.
The markets' volatility was attributed to technical-based selling, as all markets remained overbought from a momentum standpoint. Wheat futures were particularly volatile, with prices rising on reports of a meeting between President Erdogan and President Putin ending without a clear breakthrough for an agreement to halt attacks on shipping lanes in the Black Sea.
As the day progressed, wheat, corn, and bean prices bounced back from early selling to move higher. Bean oil remained lower, while all three wheat markets surged to new contract highs, with MIAX spring wheat futures leading the way.
