Greece Gas Prices Soar as Heating Oil Costs Projected to Rise 70%
Gasoline prices in Greece have reached new heights, surpassing €2.15 per liter on September 15. The average price of regular unleaded gasoline has increased to €2.168 per liter, making it more expensive for consumers to fill up their tanks. Filling a 50-liter car tank now costs €108.40, compared to €87.75 last year.
The Cyclades islands have the highest average price for regular unleaded gasoline at €2.385 per liter, followed by the Dodecanese at €2.278 per liter and the Ionian Islands at €2.268 per liter. Industry representatives are warning that heating oil prices could be at least 70% higher than last year, with a projected price of €1.90 per liter.
An emergency meeting was held at the Maximos Mansion to discuss possible measures to address the rising fuel costs. The government has agreed to monitor developments closely and may consider increasing the heating oil subsidy, raising income thresholds for the subsidy, and reinstating the Fuel Pass for unleaded gasoline.
