Greenland Oil Drilling Delayed Amid Permit Dispute

Greenland Energy Company has delayed its planned oil drilling campaign in East Greenland until winter 2027 due to a permit dispute. The project, which involves exploration of the Jameson Land Basin, was supposed to start in late 2026 but will now be pushed back by at least a year.

The delay comes after the company's partner, British firm 80 Mile Plc, brought equipment ashore without prior government approval. Greenland's Ministry of Mineral Resources issued a warning requiring future logistical operations to receive prior approval, citing that the project's regulatory process, including environmental and social reviews, cannot be completed in time.

The Jameson Land Basin covers over 2 million acres and is estimated to have potential for up to 13 billion barrels of recoverable oil. Greenland Energy can earn up to a 70% interest in the project by funding two exploration wells. CEO Robert Price stated that the company remains committed to the project and complying with Greenland's regulatory process.
