Harmony Gold Raises R8.5 Billion Amid Gold Price Downturn
Harmony Gold, South Africa's largest gold producer, is raising R8.5 billion to bolster its balance sheet at a time when gold prices are falling from record highs.
The company will issue bonds worth $500 million (R8.5 billion) with interest rates ranging between 1.5% and 2% per annum until September 2031. Investors have the option to convert their bond holdings into Harmony shares, currently trading at R314.26 each.
Despite gold prices plummeting from an all-time high of $5,589 in January this year to around $4,337 an ounce today, Harmony's CEO Beyers Nel remains confident in the company's ability to create long-term value for shareholders.
