Hindustan Copper Surges 5%, GE Vernova Jumps 7.72% Amid Equity Market Decline
The Indian equity market declined midday on September 8, but several stocks bucked the trend due to strong company-specific triggers. Hindustan Copper led key stock moves, gaining 5% as copper prices neared record levels.
Hindustan Copper's share price surged as the metal remains in high demand from power grids, renewable energy projects, artificial intelligence data centers, and electric vehicles, while supply concerns continue to drive up prices. The company is India's only firm engaged in copper ore mining and holds all operating copper mining leases, giving its shares direct exposure to the metal's price cycle.
GE Vernova T&D India emerged as the L1 bidder for a Power Grid Corporation project involving two 3,000 MW terminal stations. The project will transmit renewable power from Barmer II in Rajasthan to South Kalamb in Maharashtra and is expected to involve multi-year execution. GE Vernova's share price jumped 7.72% after this announcement.
