Southern Russia Grain Crisis Deepens Amid Drone Strikes on Key Terminals
A grain crisis is unfolding in southern Russia due to drone strikes on large grain terminals in the Azov-Black Sea basin. The attacks, which started on August 12, 2026, have disrupted transportation and left farmers facing financial failures and forced reductions in sowing.
The Novorossiysk grain terminal and the grain terminal of the Novorossiysk grain processing plant suspended operations due to damage from the drone strikes. The capacity loss has led to a significant accumulation of harvest, with farmers struggling to sell their produce at prices that are half below the cost price.
The crisis has affected the Rostov region, Krasnodar territory, and Stavropol region the most, with wheat prices falling by 100-200 rubles per day. The Russian Grain Union president, Arkady Zlochevsky, warned of the risk of bankruptcies among producers if the situation persists.
