Hormuz Oil Flows Hit Record High Amid Regional Tensions
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright reported that oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz have averaged nearly 9 million barrels per day, citing coordinated efforts by the US military and Gulf allies. This figure underlines the importance of the strait to international energy markets as tensions continue across the region.
In a statement on X, Wright also mentioned that another 5-7 million barrels per day are being transported out of the region through expanded pipelines and upgraded export facilities, which together could account for approximately 15 million barrels per day in regional oil flows.
This comes as Gulf exports have exceeded pre-conflict levels, with more than 20 million barrels of oil leaving the region on Sunday alone. This increase suggests that Gulf producers and their partners are attempting to maintain export capacity despite heightened military risks around major shipping routes.
