Hormuz Shipping Slows as Strait Remains Shut Amid War Uncertainty
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed significantly as uncertainty over the waterway's status persists. Despite US President Donald Trump stating that no talks are taking place with Iran and insisting that the strait is open, Iranian authorities claim it remains shut to shipping.
Data from Kpler shows that only six commodity vessels crossed the strait on Tuesday, down from nine a day earlier and below the 10-day daily average of 11. Inbound traffic included an empty very large crude carrier that followed the Omani side of the strait, as well as two tankers.
Two medium-range fuel tankers and a post-Panamax vessel exited the strait on Tuesday. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil and LNG shipments, handling a fifth of the world's crude oil exports before the war.
