Houthi Attacks on Marib Province Spark Fears of Renewed Conflict in Yemen

At least 10 people were killed in Yemen as Houthi rebels escalated attacks on the oil-rich Marib province, a strategic region that has been the focus of clashes between the Iranian-backed Houthis and the Saudi-supported government.

The latest violence comes after a 2022 truce between the two sides unraveled last month, with at least 58 government troops killed in rebel missile attacks on Thursday. The United Nations special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, warned that the country faces a 'greater risk of renewed large-scale conflict' than at any point since the UN-brokered truce.

The Houthi rebels claimed they had attacked a government military camp in Marib province with 'a large number of missiles and drones', while the Yemeni health minister said shelling by the Houthis had killed two civilians and wounded 14 others in residential areas and displacement camps.
