Houthi Rebels Fire Missiles at Aramco Facilities in Escalation with Saudi Arabia
Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have escalated their conflict with Saudi Arabia by firing missiles and drones at facilities belonging to Aramco, the world's largest oil company. The attacks targeted the Red Sea cities of Yanbu and Jizan in response to Saudi airstrikes on the strategic port city of Hodeida. Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the Houthis' military spokesperson, claimed that the attack was a response to the Saudi airstrikes.
The escalation comes as tensions between Iran and the US continue to rise over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route in the Middle East. The Houthi rebels have long been backed by Iran, which has provided them with military support and funding. The conflict in Yemen has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and widespread destruction.
The attack on Aramco facilities highlights the risks to global oil supplies in the region. Aramco is a critical component of Saudi Arabia's economy, and disruptions to its operations could have significant consequences for the global energy market.
