Houthi Rebels Launch Devastating Attack on Saudi Oil Infrastructure
The Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure on Tuesday, targeting facilities belonging to Aramco, the state-owned national oil company. The attacks hit multiple sites in southern Saudi Arabia, including Jazan, Najran, Abha, and Khamis Mushait, wounding 73 people and sparking fires that temporarily halted operations.
The strikes have raised concerns about a potential second major oil chokepoint, as the Middle East conflict continues to restrict shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Aramco supplies around 10% of the world's total oil demand, and any disruption to its facilities could lead to higher oil prices for US consumers.
The Houthi military spokesman claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that they were a retaliation against Saudi airstrikes in Yemen. The group has threatened 'stronger and wider strikes' if Riyadh continues its military campaign.
