Houthis Launch Coordinated Attacks on Saudi Arabia's Capital and Main Port
The Yemeni Houthi group has launched a series of attacks on Saudi Arabia's capital city, Riyadh, and its main port on the Red Sea. According to Reuters, the strikes were carried out last Saturday, September 19, with the group's spokesperson stating that a facility belonging to the Saudi national oil company, Aramco, in Yanbu was also targeted.
The attacks are said to be a response to a strike by the Islamic Military Coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, on the Yemeni capital. The coalition reported that it had shot down a missile launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh, but the group claimed that their operation was successful.
The strikes have caused concern among authorities in Saudi Arabia, with warnings issued about potential threats in the vicinity of Riyadh. A huge column of black smoke was spotted rising above the airport area, and operations at the facility were halted as a result.
