Houthis Launch Drone Attack on Riyadh as Yemen Conflict Escalates
The Saudi-led military coalition fighting against the Houthi militia in Yemen has reported that it successfully repelled an attack on the capital city of Riyadh. The attack, which was carried out using drones, was intercepted and destroyed by air defenses. Turki al-Maliki, the spokesperson for the coalition, stated that two drones were targeted and brought down.
The Houthi militia has been accused of launching a series of attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia in recent weeks. The attacks have put pressure on the government in Riyadh, particularly with regards to oil exports. The Houthi's aim is to prevent Saudi oil tankers from passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Just last Thursday, the military reported that it had intercepted six Houthi ballistic missiles. This latest attack comes as the war in Yemen continues to escalate, with both sides trading blame for the ongoing violence.
