Fighting between Yemen's Houthi forces and Saudi-backed government troops escalated on Saturday, with the Houthis claiming to have launched a strike against a major oil facility in Saudi Arabia.

The attack on the Aramco refinery near Riyadh caused a fire and a large plume of smoke to rise from the site. The Saudi authorities and Aramco had not confirmed what sparked the blaze by Saturday evening.

Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree stated that the attacks were retaliation for Saudi air strikes on Houthi-controlled areas, including Sanaa. He claimed that about 60 air attacks had been carried out over the previous 24 hours.
