Houthis Strike Saudi Oil Sites Amid Red Sea Tensions Escalate

The Houthi rebels in Yemen have escalated tensions in the Middle East by firing missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia's oil facilities, specifically targeting Aramco assets in Yanbu and Jizan. This retaliation comes after Saudi airstrikes on the Red Sea city of Hodeida, which was previously attacked by Houthis.

The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key shipping chokepoint, has been threatened with closure by the Houthis unless their demands are met, including an end to aggression and lifting of the blockade. This would severely impact global trade, as around 12% of the world's commerce passes through this strait.

The US and Iran continue to compete for control of the Strait of Hormuz, while mediation efforts remain ongoing between the two nations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with President Donald Trump in Washington next week, which may further complicate regional dynamics.
