Houthis Target Saudi Oil Transport Pipeline
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have targeted Saudi Arabia's east-west oil transport pipeline, claiming it was in response to drone incursions into Yemeni airspace. The operation aimed at sensitive crude oil supply and transport sites linking eastern Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea oil export hub of Yanbu.
Saudi state oil giant Aramco did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, stated that the operation was in response to what he described as Saudi drone incursions into Yemeni airspace.
The east-west pipeline has been rerouted to Yanbu due to Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which began after the U.S. and Israel launched a war on Iran in February. The Houthi threat has sent oil prices higher, with concerns over global oil supplies escalating further.
