India Approves Additional Wheat Exports Amid Stable Domestic Supplies
The Indian government has approved the export of an additional 25 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to support farmers and maintain stability in domestic markets.
This decision follows a review of production estimates, stock availability, and price trends. The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution stated that wheat acreage during the Rabi 2026 season has increased to over 334 lakh hectares compared to last year's 328 lakh hectares.
With this latest approval, a total of 50 lakh metric tonnes of wheat and 10 lakh metric tonnes of wheat products have been permitted for export. The government aims to improve market liquidity, ensure efficient stock management, and prevent distress sales during the peak arrival season.
