India Cracks Down on Dual Gas Connections, Sets July Deadline for Surrender
The Indian government is enforcing stricter rules for households with dual LPG and PNG connections. Oil marketing companies are reviewing customers with both types of connections, sending alerts or messages to surrender their LPG cylinders.
The aim is to reduce reliance on LPG due to supply shortages caused by the US-Israel-Iran war's impact on global energy supplies. The government has been promoting adoption of PNG and alternative fuels since March 2026, giving households a three-month ultimatum to switch.
Customers with both connections may see their LPG connection suspended or cut off from July 1 if they don't comply. Those who have already applied for PNG connections can expect installation by their local gas distributor after inspection and approval.
The Oil Ministry emphasized promoting PNG adoptions on May 14, and the National PNG Drive 2.0 has been extended until June 30 to sustain momentum in PNG expansion. As of May 13, over 57,200 customers have surrendered their LPG connections via the MYPNGD.in website.
