India is exploring the UAE as a key supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG), with a study underway to examine the feasibility of subsea pipelines to transport and store gas in India, according to Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.

The move is part of efforts to strengthen energy resilience and security amid geopolitical uncertainty and disruptions to global shipping routes. The UAE is also being considered as a trusted partner to expand strategic petroleum reserves in India.

Bilateral trade between the two countries is recovering towards pre-war levels, with exports rising by over 15% between April and September 21 of this financial year. Goyal said that local currency trade between the two nations is in double digits and expected to expand at a faster pace.
