India Lifts Export Curbs on Wheat and Wheat Flour Products

The Government of India has lifted restrictions on the export of wheat and wheat flour products, allowing their free trade with immediate effect. The decision was made by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The DGFT issued two notifications on August 24, 2026, amending the export policy for wheat and wheat flour products. The move shifts these products from the 'Prohibited' category to 'Free', opening up overseas markets for Indian wheat and wheat-based products.

The third Advance Estimates released by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare on May 27 estimated wheat production at 120.657 million tonnes for 2025-26. The export policy change allows exports falling within specified HS codes, which will need to be classified accordingly by exporters.
