Indian Appliance Makers Raise Prices Amid Rising Costs

Appliance manufacturers in India plan to increase prices of air conditioners and other consumer electronics by 5-8% from October 1, citing rising costs due to soaring metals such as copper, steel, and crude oil derivatives.

The price hike is the third round this year for the industry, with companies like Blue Star, Godrej Appliance, Haier, Daikin, and Super Plastronics already announcing or confirming hikes ranging from 4-10% across categories.

Some manufacturers fear that the price increase could affect festive demand, but others believe the impact will be limited as dealers and distributors have already stocked up inventory bought at older prices through pre-buying schemes in August and September.
