The Indian stock market plummeted on Monday, with the Sensex plummeting to a six-month low of 72,771.72 after losing 1,124.02 points.

This marked its lowest closing level since March 30, 2026.

Analysts attributed this decline to surging crude oil prices following the US-Iran stalemate over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, foreign fund outflows, and a spike in US bond yields.

The Nifty also dropped 360.25 points to end at a near six-month low of 22,780.25, with 47 shares closing lower and three up.

Larsen & Toubro fell the most by 2.81 per cent, followed by Power Grid, Adani Ports, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever, and Reliance Industries.
