Indian Stock Markets Fall on Rising Oil Prices and Geopolitical Uncertainties
The Indian stock markets, represented by Sensex and Nifty, declined in early trade on Monday due to rising crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties.
The 30-share BSE Sensex dipped 19.38 points to 78,479.79, while the 50-share NSE Nifty skidded 5.10 points to 24,567.45 in early deals.
Elevated crude prices remain a key risk, with Brent crude trading 1.03 per cent higher at USD 84.41 per barrel.
Bhagini Chaudhari of Axis Direct noted that Iran indicated no immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while weekend attacks on Gulf shipping have kept the geopolitical risk premium elevated.
