India's Commercial LPG Prices Hike Amid Global Energy Market Volatility
The government of India has increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders across major cities. The hike comes at a time when global energy markets are volatile due to fluctuations in crude oil prices and international energy benchmarks. On October 1, Brent crude jumped 4.4% to close at $102.31 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate rose 2.7% to settle at $91.11.
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder varies across cities, with differences largely driven by local taxes, transportation costs, and other regional factors. The latest increase is expected to raise fuel expenses for businesses that rely heavily on LPG for cooking and other operations. Unlike domestic LPG cylinders used by households, commercial LPG prices are revised more frequently based on changes in international crude oil and LPG prices.
The rates of 14.2-kg domestic cylinders have been kept unchanged despite global energy markets being on the edge. The US-Iran war update suggests that tensions between the two countries remain high, with US President Donald Trump stating that 'the time is coming' to end the conflict. Iran has received a US response to its offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but details of the counterproposal are unclear.
