India's Domestic Consumers Protected Amid Global Fuel Price Surge
The Indian government has assured domestic consumers that they will remain protected from rising global fuel prices. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said in a statement that commercial LPG cylinders, used by industries and hotels, have seen price increases due to a surge in the Saudi Contract Price.
The price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder in Delhi has increased to ₹2,078.50, while smaller 5 kg cylinders have also seen price hikes. However, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged at ₹913 per 14.2 kg cylinder.
The government emphasized that it continues to absorb the financial burden of maintaining stable prices. At current prices, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are incurring under-recovery of Rs 380/cylinder, with cumulative losses expected to reach approximately Rs 40,484 crore by end-May.
