India's eKYC Deadline for LPG Subsidies Draws Near
The Indian government has announced that from October 1, non-eKYC households will only receive smaller LPG refills at market prices. This means that they will lose access to subsidized 14.2 kg refills and end up paying more for cooking gas.
eKYC, or Aadhaar Authentication, is mandatory for households to continue drawing subsidized domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refills. Those who are not willing or unable to complete the eKYC process will still receive LPG but at market prices without any subsidy.
Non-eKYC households will only be supplied with 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to availability with oil marketing companies. The government says that this measure is aimed at ensuring that subsidized LPG reaches only genuine and deserving households.
