India's Frozen Foods Headed to Canada in Major Export Milestone
India's agricultural and processed food products are expanding their reach into international markets. Recently, a consignment of 24 metric tonnes of frozen foods was dispatched from Sonipat in Haryana to Canada under the guidance of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
The shipment included green peas, mixed vegetables, peas and carrots, sweet corn, samosas, and other products, all exported by Aterna Foods Producer Company Limited. The consignment's total value is 35,140 Canadian dollars, with 2,295 boxes of frozen food being shipped.
APEDA has been instrumental in linking farmer producer organisations (FPOs) with global buyers and markets through various initiatives aimed at strengthening market access and export opportunities. This FPO-led model enables farmers to access international markets and improve their returns by connecting agricultural produce with processing and international markets.
Abhishek Dev, APEDA Chairman, congratulated the exporter and stakeholders on this milestone, noting that direct exports by FPOs would significantly enhance value realisation for producers. He also expressed optimism about expanding exports to the Canadian market.
