Gold and silver prices have surged in India on September 18th. The price of one kilogram of silver has risen by ₹6,474 to ₹2.36 lakh, according to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA). This comes after a day when the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold increased by ₹1,809 to ₹1.54 lakh.

Anindya Banerjee, Senior Vice-President and Head of Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, believes that gold has support from ordinary investors as well as central banks around the world, including the Reserve Bank of India, which are buying gold. He expects gold prices to continue rising even in difficult conditions, potentially reaching ₹1.70 lakh by December.

The price of silver could also see a surge, with Banerjee predicting that it may rise to ₹3 lakh by December. Gold has become more expensive this year, increasing by ₹21,000 so far in 2026.
