India's Oil Marketing Stocks Plunge Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Oil marketing and refining stocks in India are experiencing volatility due to various factors such as geopolitics around the Strait of Hormuz, Brent crude price swings, upcoming US Fed minutes, and shifting foreign investor flows. This mix can impact domestic fuel pricing and refining economics, affecting individual companies differently.
According to a screener, three stocks from the Domestic Fuel Pricing Leverage theme are particularly exposed to these crosscurrents: Aegis Vopak Terminals (NSEI:AEGISVOPAK), Hindustan Petroleum (NSEI:HINDPETRO), and Bharat Petroleum (NSEI:BPCL).
Aegis Vopak Terminals runs LPG and chemical storage facilities across India, handling products such as LPG, oil, petrochemicals, bitumen, and vegetable oils. With a market cap of roughly ₹298.2 billion, the stock sits at the intersection of LPG and chemical flows, but its valuation and funding profile raise questions.
Hindustan Petroleum is a government-backed refiner and fuel marketer with a large petrol pump and LPG network, gas pipelines, and EV charging facilities in India and abroad. Almost all its revenue comes from the Downstream Petroleum segment at about ₹5,035.4 billion, making it susceptible to crude price swings.
Bharat Petroleum is another core fuel refiner and marketer with a nationwide petrol pump and LPG network, city gas distribution, and aviation fuel operations. With a value of about ₹1,385.9 billion, the stock's single-digit P/E and recent quarterly loss raise concerns.
