India's Record Wheat Harvest Opens Up $1.5 Billion Export Window
India's record wheat harvest has opened up $1.5 billion in export opportunities due to policy shifts, according to a report from industry chamber ASSOCHAM.
The shift in rules will allow Indian producers and processors to expand their market access while supporting export earnings for products such as wheat, durum wheat, atta, maida, semolina/rava and related items.
India's geographical location offers shorter shipping distances and lower freight costs to major importing countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, giving Indian wheat a competitive advantage over supplies from other exporting nations.
The global wheat market is changing due to weather disruptions, geopolitical tensions, higher freight costs and fluctuations in production and prices.
India produced a record 121 MMT of wheat in 2025-26 against domestic consumption of around 111 MMT, leaving a comfortable stock level of 51.3 MMT in the Central Pool as of May 28, 2026.
