India's Stock Market Falls Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty Over Strait of Hormuz
The Indian stock market declined in early trade on Thursday due to geopolitical uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz. The benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty fell by 172.48 points and 90.35 points, respectively.
The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 77,786.41, while the 50-share NSE Nifty settled at 24,343.50. Among the major laggards were Titan, UltraTech Cement, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Infosys.
On the other hand, InterGlobe Aviation, Tech Mahindra, Eternal, and NTPC were among the winners.
Elevated crude oil prices remain a major concern for domestic equities, according to Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money. Brent crude traded 0.82% lower at USD 88.25 per barrel.
