Oil and Natural Gas Corp., India's top oil producer, reported a significant increase in its first-quarter profit due to higher crude oil and natural gas prices, as well as a weaker rupee. The company's net income more than doubled in the quarter ended June to 170.34 billion rupees ($1.8 billion), surpassing estimates.

The New Delhi-based explorer's revenue jumped by 45% from a year earlier to 464.60 billion rupees, according to a stock exchange filing. This surge in revenue was driven by higher crude oil and natural gas prices, which offset lower production.

Oil and Natural Gas Corp.'s performance is notable given the challenges faced by the Indian energy sector, including declining production levels. However, the company's results suggest that it has been able to adapt to changing market conditions and capitalize on price increases.
