Investigator Silver Aims to Tap into Tightening Global Silver Market
Investigator Silver (IVR) presented its development story at the Noosa Mining Conference 2026, highlighting its pure silver project in South Australia. The company's plan offers direct exposure to silver prices and has strong economics, but it still needs permitting, financing, and construction milestones.
The project is based on a simple geometry that's suitable for low-cost bulk open pit mining. It covers about 5,000 hectares, with an ore body sitting 10 meters below the surface and stretching 2 kilometers long by up to 600 meters wide. Management said this makes it a mining-friendly area with access to labor, equipment, and support services.
Investigator Silver framed its project against a silver market that's being supported by rising industrial demand and constrained supply. The company said silver is increasingly used in solar photovoltaic systems, electric vehicle batteries, artificial intelligence infrastructure, data centers, and semiconductors. It noted that about 25% of global silver supply comes from primary silver miners, while the rest is a byproduct from other mining operations.
The project's definitive feasibility study was completed in February 2024, with a net present value (NPV) of more than AUD 600 million at current silver prices. It generates about $1 billion in free cash over an 11-year mine life and has initial capital expenditure of around $260 million.
