Iran Accused of Attacking Saudi Oil Tanker, Killing Two Seafarers

Saudi Arabia has confirmed that an Iranian attack on one of its oil tankers killed two Filipino seafarers. The supertanker, Sidr, was hit late on Monday while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global energy exports.

The Saudi foreign ministry stated that the kingdom stressed the necessity of halting escalations and respecting international maritime safety and security of global energy supplies. Bahri, the company that owns the Sidr, said it was in continuous contact with the vessel and coordinating closely with relevant authorities and maritime industry stakeholders.

This incident is not an isolated one. Another Bahri vessel, the Wedyan supertanker, was hit while passing through the strait close to Oman's coast in July. Two other Bahri vessels were attacked in the Red Sea in July and August after the Iran-backed Yemen's Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia.
