The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have claimed to have struck an oil tanker sailing under the Togolese flag in the Strait of Hormuz, according to state news agency IRNA. The incident occurred on Friday and is the latest development in the ongoing tensions between Iran and other countries.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also reported a 'security incident' in the area on Thursday, but did not provide details about the vessel involved. It remains unclear whether this was the same ship targeted by the Revolutionary Guards.

Iran has imposed an effective blockade of the strait since the US and Israel struck its facilities last month. The country is seeking to charge tolls for passage and has been attacking ships it accuses of attempting to circumvent its preferred route.
