Iran Conflict Fuels Record Energy Stock Sales as Investors Flock to Oil
The ongoing conflict in Iran has triggered a surge in stock sales by US-listed oil and gas producers, making March the busiest month for energy companies in over six years.
According to Bloomberg data, oil and gas firms have sold $3.5 billion via stock offerings so far this year, with eight separate exploration and production deals already completed in March.
This is the sector's biggest haul since September 2019, and some of their biggest shareholders are also cashing out, including a recent $1.9 billion sale of shares in Permian Basin oil producer Diamondback Energy Inc by the heir of tycoon Autry Stephens.
The sudden market shifts have led to increased volatility in oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate crude prices at times topping $100 a barrel, causing investors to pour cash into energy stocks.
