Iran Detains Oil Tanker in Strategic Waterway
Iran's Revolutionary Guards have detained an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz after it allegedly attempted an 'illegal passage'. The tanker, named Trend, was targeted and detained by Iranian authorities following a fire on board.
The incident occurred near Khasab, Oman, according to reports from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). Iran has been blocking the Strait of Hormuz since US and Israeli strikes against it in late February. The country has imposed tolls on vessels using the waterway and attacked ships trying to bypass its preferred route.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route, through which a significant share of the world's oil supply passes. Iran's actions have sparked concerns about regional stability and the security of global trade.
