Iran Grants Permission for Iraqi Oil Tankers to Transit Strait of Hormuz
Iran has granted permission for several Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports from Iran's state news agency IRNA.
The move comes after repeated requests from Baghdad, which had sought special permission for its tankers to traverse the strategic waterway.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi said that Iran had facilitated the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil through the Strait in recent days and that his government had discussed exporting oil through Hormuz with Iranian officials.
The issue remains complicated, with traffic in the strait significantly below pre-war levels and ships continuing to face attacks in the area. Iraq produced around 4 million barrels of oil per day before the Iran war.
