Iran Mines Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Conflict
Iran's military has deployed about a dozen mines in the Strait of Hormuz, an important waterway for shipping oil and liquefied natural gas. The move is likely to complicate the reopening of the strait, which has been closed due to the ongoing war between the US and Iran.
The deployment of mines is not new; Iran has long threatened to retaliate against any military attack by mining the strait. According to sources, most of the mine locations are known, but it's unclear how the US plans to deal with them.
Iran's military command warned that the world should be prepared for oil prices to hit $200 a barrel. The US has targeted Iranian mine-laying vessels, eliminating 16 of them on Tuesday, but has not provided protective escorts to commercial ships through the strait.
