Turkey Vows Technical Support for Saudi Arabia Against Yemen's Houthi Militants

Turkey has signaled its intention to provide technical military support to Saudi Arabia in its conflict against Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen. This move comes as part of the Mecca Defense Alliance, a trilateral agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan.

The alliance was formed last month, and its purpose is to counter threats from Houthi attacks on Saudi territory. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that there may be military needs in certain technical areas, and that his country would have no problem meeting them.

The conflict has intensified over the past few weeks, with Houthi drones targeting western cities and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Last week, Riyadh said it intercepted a ballistic missile headed for the capital and thwarted separate Houthi attacks on civilian sites, including the key Red Sea oil port of Yanbu.

Ankara is also considering joining a Saudi-led multinational naval force to counter threats to shipping in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab strait, and the Gulf of Aden. This move would likely have significant implications for global energy flows and shipping routes.
