Iran Offers Midterm Election Deal to End Conflict with US
Tehran has offered Washington a new deal aimed at ending the conflict before the November midterm elections. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said they want Americans to return to the MOU (memorandum of understanding) reached in June, but that America instead descended into bombing and blocking every pathway.
The proposal submitted by Iran includes restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz within a week if Washington lifts its economic blockade, eases restrictions on Iranian oil exports, and releases some frozen assets. The plan also seeks an end to hostilities on other fronts, including Israel's combat operations in Lebanon.
The US and Iranian negotiators are discussing a phased arrangement where the blockade and restrictions would be addressed first. Araghchi said Iran has not abandoned its claim to regulate Hormuz, insisting that fees may be charged for services provided to passing vessels.
