Iran Offers New Deal to Trump Administration Amid Economic Pressures
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveled to New York for the U.N. gathering of world leaders, where they proposed a new deal with the Trump administration.
The proposal would end the fighting in seven days if the US ends its military blockade of Iranian ports, releases frozen Iranian assets, and waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales, among other conditions.
This is not the first time Iran has proposed a deal to the US, but it's the first time with a specific timeline. The speedier timeline may be an attempt by Tehran to address its economic pain before the November midterm elections in the US.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the latest talks were 'good' and that the US was open to more negotiations, while Trump threatened to 'annihilate' Iran during his U.N. speech. However, Pezeshkian maintained that Tehran remains open to diplomacy.
