Iran Offers Seven-Day Plan to End US War
Tehran has proposed a seven-day plan to end the war between Iran and the United States, which includes a series of steps that both countries must complete before ceasefire talks can resume.
The proposal, outlined by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York on Thursday, sets out several key objectives, including the release of at least $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, the waiver of sanctions targeting Iranian oil, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which would occur on the seventh day.
The proposal is based largely on the Memorandum of Understanding reached by Washington and Tehran in June, which had established a 60-day period for negotiations. However, the arrangement broke down within weeks as both sides accused each other of failing to honour their commitments.
An Iranian security source told Al Jazeera that further diplomatic engagement could be possible if the US meets Tehran's conditions, but analysts have suggested that major differences between Washington and Tehran remain unresolved.
