Iran Offers US Last-Minute Deal Before Midterm Elections
Tehran has offered the US a new deal to end their months-long conflict before the November midterm elections. The Iranian proposal, which was submitted through mediators in New York this week, aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within about a week and resume negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
The plan would require Washington to lift its economic blockade, ease restrictions on Iranian oil exports, and release some frozen Iranian assets. In exchange, Tehran would restore navigation through the vital oil shipping route and end hostilities with Israel in Lebanon.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told reporters that his country wishes Americans to return to a memorandum of understanding reached by Washington and Tehran in June. He also emphasized that Iran is prepared for dialogue and diplomacy, but will not negotiate under threats of force.
