Iran Opens Hormuz Strait to Iraqi Oil Tankers
The Iranian government has granted permission for several Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route in the Middle East. This move comes after repeated requests from Baghdad, with Iranian officials facilitating the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil in recent days.
According to reports, Iraq's President Nizar Amedi stated that Iran had allowed the passage of these tankers, and that Baghdad had discussed exporting its oil through the Strait with Iranian officials. This is significant because Iraq has been one of the countries most affected by Iran's closure of the Strait, which has caused traffic in the area to remain significantly below pre-war levels.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi announced plans to expand exports through Turkey's Ceyhan port and begin exporting oil through Syria's Baniyas port and Jordan's Aqaba port. The country aims to increase its production, which was around 4 million barrels per day before the Iran war.
