Iran Proposes Seven-Day Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
Iran's foreign minister has proposed a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in seven days if the US meets certain conditions. The proposal, conveyed through Qatar, would require the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and waive sanctions on Iranian oil sales.
The deal would also restart talks on Iran's nuclear program, which have been stalled for months. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that initial steps would take about four to five days to complete, with the strait reopening on the sixth day.
Araghchi emphasized that the proposal is not a new idea, but rather an accelerated version of a deal proposed in June, which quickly collapsed. He noted that more than 5,000 people have been killed in the nearly seven-month US-Israeli war with Iran.
