Iran Reopens Dialogue on Hormuz Strait Plan
Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that the country's new plan to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz was coordinated with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The plan, which calls for a cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, has been met with skepticism by Washington.
Pezeshkian stated that if the US agrees to the proposal and fulfils its obligations, Iran will do the same. He emphasized that the six-member team responsible for discussing the plan has 'the authority to make decisions' and includes representatives from various organizations, including the military, parliament, and government.
The team's plan notably calls for the release of frozen Iranian assets worth at least $12 billion, as well as the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil and an end to the US naval blockade of Iran. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that the plan's conditions are the same as those laid out in a memorandum of understanding signed with the US in June.
