Iran Strikes Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Tensions

Iran has claimed to have struck an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, citing an 'illegal attempt' to pass through the waterway. The state broadcaster reported that the Revolutionary Guard Corps had taken action against the Togo-flagged vessel, Trend.

The Associated Press could not immediately confirm the report, but it is the latest in a series of incidents involving ships transiting the strait. A separate report from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) mentioned an 'unknown projectile' hitting a tanker, causing a fire that was later extinguished. The crew was reported safe.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Tehran, the largest showing of support for the government since the US and Israel attacked in February. Protesters trampled flags of the US and Israel, chanting 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel.'

South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung said his country is considering expanding its naval operations in the Gulf of Aden off Yemen and Somalia to protect its ships and oil routes. However, he stressed that South Korea would not take action that would draw it into the US-Iran conflict.
